053: John Lennon – When I was 5

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” – John Lennon

This was drawn by Apeng. Check out his awesome art blog here.

John Lennon was one quarter of the legendary band, The Beatles. He is one of the most celebrated singer and song-writer of the 20th century. Through out his career, Lennon was also and activist for peace and love. Yes, he was a hippy, but that’s not a bad thing at all. If you don’t know who he is, you don’t know your music.

I find his quote to be applicable to everyone. Everyone who is stuck in the grind needs to remember this. It doesn’t matter who or what you are, everyone can be happy. In fact, everyone needs to remember to be happy. If not for happiness, then for what reason do we live?

Personally, I was always a naturally happy person. People don’t really get me down, nor do I often take offense. I was and still am happy with my life and how it has played out.

However, I have to admit that happiness is elusive to some. Some people just aren’t built that way. I do hope these people can find their own happiness, even a little bit of it is great. If you are such a person, maybe reading this book will help you. Happiness does have many practical advantages too.

If you have a happiness tale to tell, do so in the comments below.
