052: Nolan Bushnell – The Critical Ingredient Is

“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. Alot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” – Nolan Bushnell

This was drawn by Ciellchan, You can find her other work here.

Nolan Bushnell is the founder of Atari and Chunk E. Cheese’s. He is considered to be a great innovator during the 1970’s. Probably one of the earliest during that time too. He is one of those engineers who realised that they had an enterprising spirit within. And now gamers all around the world have him to thank as a founding father of the gaming industry.

Fun fact: Bushnell was Steve Jobs’s first boss. Some of Bushnell’s innovation might have rubbed off Jobs. You can read more about it in Bushnell’s book.

Bushnell quote strikes home. Too many New Though self-help books talk about how you can attain your goals just by thinking real hard about them. The reality is that you have to work towards your goals. It’s one of the universal truths. There is no replacement for hard work. No matter how efficient and effective you work, you will still need hard work in the end.

I hope everyone who reads this remembers these words. It doesn’t only apply to entrepreneurs. Any goal will need hard work.

If you know someone who will be motivated by this, please send it to them.
