005: Mark Cuban – Being Rich Is A Good Thing
“Being rich is a good thing. Not just in the obvious sense of benefitting you and your family, but in the broader sense. Profits are not a zero sum game. The more you make, the more of a financial impact you can have.” – Mark Cuban

This quote comes from Mark Cuban, a serial entrepreneur and billionaire. So far, the businesses he has started or managed range from a pub to internet broadcasting and teaching disco. If you are a basketball fan, then you would know him as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. He’s probably not the nicest guy you’ll ever met, but he’s a natural entrepreneur, as evidenced by his entrepreneurial activities as a youth. If you want a quick run down on Cuban’s business exploits, FundersAndFounders.com has a good infographic with Cuban in it.
The debate of “is being rich a bad thing?” had been going on for a ridiculously long time, with supports on both sides of the debate. With this comic, we can see that riches could potentially help the poor and less fortunate. But only if people are willing to use riches for such purposes. For the record, Cuban himself is a philanthropist himself, having donated large amounts of money to charity and having a few non-profit organisations. This doesn’t include all the unrecorded and anonymous donations he had made. I guess that’s why he made the statement quoted in the comic.
I hope more people use their riches for a good cause.
